Ryan Bates Photography invites you to view its latest gallery of artwork, “The Generations Project,” this Friday evening, April 26th, in Vacaville, CA.
This family-oriented exhibition features 15 images by local photographer Ryan Bates who accentuates the emotional bonds of 15 families.
As we approach Mother’s Day, we know that celebrating a mother celebrates the entire family – a circle of strength and love that grows with every birth and every union.
The Generations Project presents a rare, five-generation set of women…great grandmother, grandmother, mother, daughter, granddaughter…as well as a local councilwoman, daughters that have been reunited with their birth mother after 30 years, two-time breast cancer survivor, and other local business owners.
We welcome the entire community to join us in celebrating family as we stroll through Engage Meeting Places this Friday Night in an open house style event. See you there!

Full of natural beauty, Lagoon Valley Park’s greatest splendor lies not in the wonder of its gorgeous scenery, but in its exploration! There are far too many ways to spend a day in the area than we can list here, but we’ll name a couple of the key activities here should you find yourself looking for things to do on any given day.
Speaking of flying, a group of RC (radio-controlled) enthusiasts called the Lagoon Valley Flyers meet every Sunday morning at 8am. The RC area is located at the south end of the park, and allows for plenty of runway and clear visibility to take off, fly, and land your electric-powered plane or helicopter.
So tell us… what’s your favorite thing to do at Lagoon Valley?
Easter is almost here, which means kids all over Vacaville will soon be on the hunt for plastic eggs and chocolate bunnies. Here’s a roundup of the major Easter themed events for children happening throughout the city.

The event, which features egg hunts, swimming and carnival games, is for all children through age 12. Children under 8 must be accompanied and supervised at arm’s length by an adult at all times.
Participants will be grouped according to ages:
Ages 4 and under, 1:15 p.m. in the activity area.

There will also be special golden eggs that can be redeemed for prizes.
The recreation pool, water slides and activity area will be open from 2 to 3 p.m. after the hunt.

Follow the map to hunt for eggs from participating stores while supplies last. Plus, enjoy a special guest appearance by the Easter Bunny & Friends. The first 100 children to check in will receive a gift bag. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Offer good while supplies last. No purchase necessary. Need not be present to win prizes.
It’s not officially Spring just yet, but boy does it feel like it. With weather this perfect, it’s time to find things to do outside again! Vacaville offers a host of outdoor activities for one and all, but Lagoon Valley Park features so many of these options that we decided to focus solely on this location for a few weeks.
Whether you’re into hiking, trail running, mountain biking, horse back riding, disc golf, archery, or just plain sitting and watching the sunset, Lagoon Valley Park is the place for you. We’ll cover all of these in the near future, but this week we’re focused on exploring the natural beauty of the area.
For those who like to stroll and soak up the sun, a walk around the lagoon is in order. There are many winding trails that go up and down the hills of Lagoon Valley, but for those who prefer a more horizontal trek, go for a simple walk around the lagoon.
If a little shade and a few hills don’t bother you, try starting your walk at the Butcher Rd entrance and head to Jack Hume Grove. A walk through the Redwoods & native plants is sure to clear and refresh your mind. The grove was planted back in 1982, and then expanded into a park are after Jack Hume, the grove’s main benefactor and namesake, passed away in 1991.
Of course, you can always just sit by the lagoon and watch the sun rise or set over the Vaca Valley Hills.
What’s your favorite way to relax and take in the beauty of Lagoon Valley? Let us know in the comments and share this post with a friend!
It’s playoff time and you’re in luck – it’s also Vacaville Restaurant Week, which means you can enjoy great meals and snacks at special prices while watching the game. For more details on that, visit VacavilleRestaurantWeek.com.
Here’s a list of the Five Best Places to Eat/Drink and Watch the 49ers on their quest for six in Vacaville, CA.
1. Blondies Bar & Grill:
Blondies is a full service restaurant bar and grill for the entire family with a unique menu provided by Executive Chef Jason Johnson of Curbside Cuisine. Chef Jason adds an island-fusion edge to bar and grill standards, with the Banh Mi Burger and Hawaiian favorite, the Loco Moco.
And what playoff game would be complete without pork rinds made fresh by Chef Jason on game day? See the process for yourself:
2. City Sports Bar & Grill
For delicious food prepared by Chef Joey Jaraba Jr. and a HUGE screen for watching the game, City Sports Bar & Grill at Stars Recreation Center is always packed on game day. If you’re not already in the mood for a 1/2 lb burger & fries for only $6, give the nachos or steak quesadilla a try. Portions are huge, so you’re sure to be stuffed, and the bar is always fully stocked.
3. BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse
For a selection of award-winning beers (or BJ’s Handcrafted Root Beer), there’s no better place to watch the game than on BJ’s giant flat screen TV’s in the bar.
4. Buffalo Wild Wings
More than just a sports bar, Buffalo Wild Wings offers a full menu which far exceeds the expectations of traditional pub fare. Adorned with big screen televisions and a healthy tap selection, you’ll be able to enjoy the game while partaking in a wide variety of wings & sauces, burgers, flat-bread pizza, salads, chicken wraps, sandwiches, ribs and more.
5. Burger City Cafe & Grill
Burger City may not have the largest televisions, but as you can see, they make up for it with the size of their food! It’s not necessarily a sports bar, but it’s a great burger joint with a bar & local sports are always on the flat screens.
