As a special treat this holiday season, Nostalgic Nut Tree, an exhibit in the Vacaville Museum gallery, evokes precious recollections of the former Nut Tree, just in time to share with family and friends through January 31, 2013.
Nut Tree made quite an impression. For almost 75 years, it stood as a vibrant stop for travelers along the highway. It showcased the fresh flavors of California’s harvests, the energy of California’s people and the diversity of California’s experiences; it was fun, it was food, it was shopping, it was private aviation, it was entertainment. In the words of Alan Temko of the San Francisco Chronicle, it was “an oasis of good taste”.
When the former landmark Nut Tree closed in 1996, many of its photographs, ephemera, and colorfully branded objects were gifted to the Vacaville Museum. An exhibit of these objects, as well as loaned pieces, was displayed in in the gallery through 1997-1998.
With hundreds of employees and millions of annual visitors, Nut Tree was a beloved institution that is still missed by the local community. Nostalgic Nut Tree is an exhibition bound to stir fond memories for those who miss the hand decorated honey cookies, or remember a special event in the dining room, or whose families flew into the airport and rode the train to the toy store, or for so many others with their own special Nut Tree reminiscences. Don’t miss this chance to take another look back at the California original that was Nut Tree.
